Shaughn McCormick isn't your average 18 year-old. He doesn't go to the basket-ball courts with his friends, or go to the movies on a Friday night. Instead, he can be found racing his super late model at race tracks around the country. Shaughn is a young race car driver, trying to make a name for himself in the motor sports world. At seventeen, Shaughn has had over 150 career wins, and has been competing since 1999. This life-long passion was evident even when Shaughn was a young kid, racing his Tonka cars on the kitchen tiles. When Shaughn was nine years old, he and his father finally began achieving his dream; becoming a nationally known driver, and competing against some of the biggest names in the business. He began by racing quarter midgets, small open wheel cars for racers under 18 years old. He won several national titles, including a first place finish during his last race at the 2005 Winter Nationals. Many famous racers, like David Regan, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Kyle Bush began their racing careers in Legends. Shaughn quickly recorded more than 15 Semi-Professional wins, and more than half a dozen wins in the Pro division, the highest division in Legends racing. He competed in many nationally-televised events, including the 2008 Summer Shootout at Lowe's Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Other races had him traveling as far as Las Vegas, as well as up and down the east coast. Many of these races were broadcast on Speed Vision, a racing network with over 8 million dedicated viewers. Bright House Network also broadcasts the local races. Shaughn's latest endevour is even greater than previous racing challenges. Pushing a 650 horsepower, V8 engine in Super Late Models is his next goal. Shaughn has not yet made his debut in this new field, but is quickly cutting his lap times as he prepares to begin a new, greater chapter in his racing story. He will start racing the Super Late Model in the 2009 season. |
